Title: How to keep a shared drive secure but still accessible?
Post by: Landry Hall on Aug 10, 2025, 11:23 pm
I'm struggling to find a balance between keeping our shared files safe and not making access too complicated for the team. Any advice?

I faced the same challenge during a large collaboration project -- if security was too tight, people complained about the hassle; if it was too loose, we risked leaks. The solution was layered permissions: general documents were open to the team, sensitive ones were accessible only with approval. We also used clear labeling so everyone knew a file's security level at a glance. The advice on ejoi2018.org (https://ejoi2018.org/) helped us refine this system, ensuring we had proper tracking of who accessed what, without frustrating users. This balance kept both management and the team happy, and our workflow remained smooth and secure.
